These beautiful hand beaded necklaces come from a little village called Longido, Northern Tanzania with Nalepo Shanga Women's Group. Nalepo means 'successful work' in Maasai.
The group is a project and was set up specifically for Pensar Africa in collaboration with Testigo Africa . Pensar Africa’s aim in this project is to create ethical and sustainable jobs for disadvantaged women in the area.
Nalepo women’s aim is to produce high quality ethical jewellery.
Namnyak Olengunin headed this project and chose members of the group based on their need and extreme poverty. They allocated the different pieces of jewellery to the women who are best at making that particular type of pieces. Profits equally between the members of the group.
